"Don't Half-Ass This Life" - Note to Self

Hello friends,

Summer is slowly coming to an end.

Around our house, that means back-to-school shopping, getting ready for college, planning schedules, and wondering where the last few months disappeared.

Life doesn't wait for anyone. It just keeps moving.

Lately, that's made me think about something I've been practicing every single day.

Being present.

Not perfectly—but intentionally.

It's so easy to spend our days thinking about everything that's still unfinished. The emails waiting to be answered. The projects still in progress. The problems that need solving. The goals we haven't reached yet.

Before we know it, another week has gone by.

Another season. Another year.

Life is so much bigger than our to-do lists.

I've started reminding myself of something almost every day:

Don't half-ass this life.

Maybe it's an unusual phrase for a mental health newsletter, but it's honest.

I have a healthy mind.
I have a healthy body.
I have people I love.
I still have opportunities to make a difference.

My sister didn't get that chance.

So I owe it to her—and to myself—to live this life fully.

This Sunday, I slowed down.

I rested.

I reflected.

I spent time talking with a dear friend.

I consoled another friend who had just lost her mentor.

I savored every bite of the lunch our son cooked for us.

I savored every bite of the mango I shared with our daughter.

I stole a quiet cup of tea with my husband.

Nothing extraordinary happened.

And yet...

That's exactly what life is made of.

Sometimes I catch myself feeling like I'm falling behind.

Behind in speaking.

Behind in writing.

Behind in launching the podcast.

Behind in all the dreams I still have.

Then I stop.

A while ago, I wrote a letter to my future self.

Every now and then, I go back and read it.

It reminds me that I'm exactly where I need to be today—not because everything is finished, but because I'm still taking the next step.

One conversation.

One newsletter.

One podcast episode.

One day at a time.

Speaking of the podcast...it's officially in creation mode, and I couldn't be more grateful.

I'm having so much fun building it—from choosing the microphone and learning the technology to designing the artwork and imagining the conversations we'll have together.

There's something beautiful about creating before anyone sees the finished product.

I can't wait to share it with you.

If you've read this newsletter all the way to the end, thank you.

Truly.

I'd love to hear from you.

Is there a mental health topic you'd like me to explore on the Path To Hope™ Podcast?

Path To Hope

Path To Hope was created as a space for honest conversations about mental health, human connection, and the things many of us were never taught how to talk about. As a speaker, author, mental health advocate, and immigrant parent, I’ve seen how often emotional struggles go unnoticed — not because people don’t care, but because many of us were never given the language, tools, or examples to recognize them early. For a long time, I believed being a good parent meant making sure my children were successful, responsible, and prepared for life. What I’ve learned over time is that emotional connection matters just as much. This space is about those conversations. You can expect reflections, practical insights, stories, and gentle reminders that healing doesn’t only begin in moments of crisis — it often begins in everyday moments of awareness, honesty, and connection. Conversations on Mental Health, Human Connection & Healing Parenting Woes & Permission to Rest Hello friends, Well, it's been another interesting week in our household! 😊 We're navigating some changes around our daughter's screen time, and my goodness, parenting a 13-year-old is quite the experience! We're trying to create healthier boundaries and encourage more family time. But of course, she's 13, and hanging out with her friends online is a pretty big part of her social life right now. And...
